Diving in Protaras

Diving in Protaras in a MUST DO activity. The crystal clear waters with +50m visibility makes is very easy and enjoyable to scuba diving. Whatever your level, there is a diving spot for everybody.

Green Bay

Green Bay in Protaras is a safe and easy dive site that is suitable for all levels of scuba divers from beginners to certified divers wishing a refreshing dive. Ideal for introduction dives as well. The maximum depth at this site is 10 metres with hundreds of colourful fish to see and a perfect spot for night dives with some “night marine-life species”.

Liberty Shipwreck

This is the first of two new wrecks for Protaras. The Liberty Shipwreck was purposely sunk in May 2009 for artificial reef and scuba diving tourism in Cyprus. It has an overall length of 37m and a width of 10m. The Wreck of Liberty is located in approximately 1 kilometre from the shore in Protaras and is just a short boat ride. This is a relatively shallow waters dive and very good visibility make this shipwreck ideal for all levels of divers! The maximum depth is 28 meters .

Nemesis Wreck

Nemesis Wreck sits in 24 meters of water off the coast 1 km from Protaras This wreck of the nemesis was an abandon deep-sea trawler with its 26 meters length and its 6 meters width. Purposely sunk in an area specially created for an artificial reef. Whether you are a wreck diver enthusiast or wishing to see such a pristine wreck nemesis, this dive site is great for open water level divers too with good access and open space through the bridge area on the wreck.

Cyclops and Canyon Caves

This beautiful dive site is located just a few minutes drive from Protaras. It is located in Cape Grecko area. Underwater landscape, Neptune grass, Damsel Fish, Sea bream, Groupers, Octopus, Turtles, Mediterranean Moray Eel and elegant Barracudas await you. The entrance starts at a depth of 2m, gradually going down to 40m and beyond.

The Caves

The Caves is probably the most interesting dive site of Cape Greko Area. With its maximum depth of 12 meters, it is a suitable site for divers of all levels. Underwater tunnels and swim-throughs are inhabited by Grouper Fish, Cardinal Fish and Octopus. The end of the dive will lead you to the surface through a natural blow hole.

Chapel

Chapel is another favourite dive site of many locals and tourists. This dive site is only suitable for Open Water Diver or equivalent or above. The Chapel has two points of entry, one of which is a nice stroll down a winding path with easy access to the water and the other is a giant stride from the rocks. Be prepared to see lots of broken pottery, Grouper, Damsel Fish, Sea Bream and Octopus

Diving Course

The Professional Association of Diving Instructor (PADI), the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) and the Scuba Schools International (SSI) is the worlds largest training agencies and are recognized internationally. When visiting Protaras, Cyprus you can take a diving course and become a certified diver. All the diving centres offer courses for all levels.

Discover scuba diving

The Discover Scuba Diving program allows notices to safely experience the thrill of scuba diving. You escape to a unique part of our world with vivid colors, pristine beauty and fascinating aquatic creatures. When you participate in Discover Scuba Diving, you learn about scuba diving in three simple steps. An instructor conducts a brief underwater experience in pool. Then under the careful supervision of your instructor, you will go on an actual scuba dive in shallow, calm water where you safely experience the same sense of wonder and excitement shared every day by scuba divers throughout the world.
Minimum age: 8 years old

Scuba divers course

If you have no time or if you like to take things in small steps, this course consists of the first three segments of theory and pool sessions of the Open Water Course and the first two dives in the Sea. Scuba Diver Course will allow you to dive to a maximum of 12 metres under the supervision of a Dive Professional. This CERTIFICATION does not expire and allows you to upgrade to Open Water Diver at any time.
Minimum age: 10 years old

Scuba diver upgrade

Second Step do Scuba Divers. This segment of training cover 2 extra sessions of theory and pool training in addition to the last two dives in the Open Water, to become qualified as an Open Water Diver.
Minimum age: 12 years old

Open Water course

This 4 days course is divided into 3 parts: Classroom, confined water (pool) and four open-water scuba dives with your instructor. Anyone in good health who’s reasonably fit and comfortable in the water can learn to scuba dive. During the dives, you’ll have fun applying and demonstrating the skills you learned in the classroom and pool plus you’ll experience the thrill of visiting the underwater world. After completing the course you’ll be given a PADI-NAUI-SSI Open Water Diver Certification Card and will be able to enjoy diving to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
Minimum age: 12 years old

Advanced Open Water

A further 5 dives for experience and pleasure, covering navigation, deep diving, and 3 elective dives from a choice. Once you graduate to Advanced Open Water Diver, you can dive up to 30m.
Minimum age: 12 years old

Dive master

This professional-level course includes observing and assisting on 5 confined water training sessions and 10 open water dives. There are also a series of stamina and skill assessment exercises to show that you have a high level of competence in diving skills. The theory exam evaluates knowledge gained from all previous levels of courses.
Minimum age: 18 years old
